2007 ASPnet annual conference
University of Birmingham, School of Education
|
The UK ASPnet annual conference took place at Birmingham University, School of Education on 16 November 2007.
It was the first annual conference to take place since the ASPnet was re-established in the United Kingdom in 2005. The purpose of the Conference was to raise the profile of UNESCO, assist teachers with teaching resources and techniques, and encourage other education institutions to join the network.
The programme covered a wide range of presentations and workshops and was very well received by all participants. They spanned from World Heritage Education to teaching about the United Nations and reflections on ASPnet’s role to promote Peace and Security.
Participants included teachers already members of ASPnet as well as teachers from schools interested in joining the network. A number of organisations with projects relating to the four study themes were represented, illustrating the potential contribution ASPnet could make to school through links and resources.
The event was an excellent opportunity to celebrate the great work that is already happening in UK ASPnet schools and to put the activities of ASPnet into the context of the wider work of UNESCO.
Feedback from the day highlighted the warm and informal atmosphere as well as the breadth of the presentations and the networking opportunities.
