International Fellowships For Women In Science

Call for applications for the 2009 cycle of the UNESCO-L'Oréal Co-Sponsored Fellowships for Young Women in Life Sciences international fellowship programme is now closed.

Every year, these international Fellowships honour 15 young women researchers in the life sciences at doctoral or postdoctoral level. The Fellowships, each worth up to $40,000 for a period of up to two years, are awarded to three Fellows from each of the following five regions: Africa, Arab States; Asia & the Pacific; Europe & North America; and Latin America & the Caribbean, whose promising projects have been accepted by a reputable institution outside their home country.

UK CANDIDATES

UK citizens who wish to apply for the 2009 International Fellowships must have their applications received by the UK National Commission by 31 May 2008. All applications must be submitted with the required documentation on the prescribed application forms. 

The UK National Commission for UNESCO will conduct an initial review the applications and will endorse up to 4 applications which will be sent onto UNESCO headquarters for final consideration.

 

NON-UK CANDIDATES

Applications must be submitted through and endorsed by the UNESCO National Commission of the candidate’s home country. Non-UK citizens who wish to apply for the 2009 International Fellowships must contact their UNESCO National Commission to enquire about national deadlines. All applications must be submitted with the required documentation on the prescribed application forms.

ELIGIBILITY: SUMMARY

 Candidates must be female and no more than 35 years old (born after 1 January 1974).
 Preference will be given to candidates already possessing a PhD degree (or equivalent) in the field of life sciences at the time of application. However, applications from doctoral students will be considered. 
 Candidates must be proficient in reading and writing the language of instruction in the proposed country of study. 
 Candidates must undertake research in the field of life sciences.

 (UK citizens only): Applications must be submitted through the UK National Commission for UNESCO.
