Celebration of UK’s documentary heritage
A reception was held at the House of Lords on 5 September to celebrate the 20 items and collections recently inscribed to the UK Memory of the World Register. These items have been selected from the UK’s libraries, archives and museums to represent the outstanding documentary heritage of the United Kingdom.
The reception was opened by Dr Hywel Francis MP, Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APG) on Archives. David Dawson, Chair of the UK Memory of the World Committee, then presented the awards and certificates to representatives of the winning institutions.
These 20 new inscriptions, which were first announced in May 2011, span over 1,100 years, come from across the country and embody pivotal moments in the history of their communities and the UK as a whole. These items join the ten items and collections already on the UK Register. The winners were chosen by the expert committee of the UK Memory of the World programme following a nomination and review process.
