Decade of Education for Sustainable Development
The UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD), 2005-2014, is a global effort to raise public awareness of and wider participation in Education for Sustainable Development. UNESCO is the lead UN Agency for the Decade globally.
The UK National Commission for UNESCO (UKNC) ESD Working Group is the lead coordinator of the Decade in the UK.
The Decade was launched on 1 March 2005 at the UN Headquarters in New York. In the UK, the launch was marked by a UKNC conference ‘From Local to Global: The Long Term Vision for the Decade’.
Bonn Declaration
The 150 countries represented at the UNESCO World Declaration on Education for Sustainable Development, held in Bonn, Germany on 31 March to 2 April 2009, issued a statement and call for action on Education for Sustainable Development which became the Bonn Declaration.
