Education for All Global Monitoring Report Seminar

Venue: Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh

This Seminar is being held by the UK National Commission for UNESCO in partnership with Learning Teaching Scotland and the Scottish Qualifications Authority.

Seminar to disseminate the Education for All Global Monitoring Report 2010 in Scotland.

  • Keith Brown (Scotland’s Minister for Skills and Lifelong Learning) - will open the seminar
  • Olav Seim (Director EFA International Co-ordination Team, UNESCO) - keynote speaker
  • Samer Al-Samarrai (Senior Policy Analyst, EFA Global Monitoring Report Team, UNESCO) -  present the EFA GMR 2010

The 2010 Education for All Global Monitoring Report (EFA GMR) focuses on "reaching the most marginalized”. All education systems, including those of Scotland, have to address problems of marginalisation. Chronic poverty, social exclusion, and inequalities linked to gender, race and ethnicity, conflict, location, and disability can interact to lock disadvantaged groups into extreme educational disadvantage.

The seminar, held by UK National Commission for UNESCO Scotland Committee, in partnership with Learning Teaching Scotland and the Scottish Qualifications Authority, will engage 130 Scottish practitioners and policy-makers in a discussion about the root causes of education marginalisation by:

  • looking at policy solutions which are combating it, both at home and abroad, through relevant case studies
  • identifying how Scotland can support progress in the areas covered by the GMR towards reaching the Education for All goals by 2015.
