Sharing our experience: International Capacity Building by UK Learned Societies
02 June 2009
Venue: The Royal Astronomical Society, Burlington House, Piccadilly, London W1J 0BQ
The objectives of the event are:
- To exchange experience of Capacity Building programmes for developing countries
- To examine the scale and status of Capacity Building programmes in UK Learned Societies
- To discuss the possible benefits of coordinated action by UK Learned Societies in this area
Experience from current Capacity Building programmes for developing countries will be presented, and each Society attending will be given an opportunity to provide a brief outline of their current programmes and future plans, highlighting both challenges and opportunities. Societies with little experience in this area, but who may wish to become involved, are especially welcome. There will be adequate time for discussion with a view to establishing whether some coordination of UK activities in this field would be beneficial and what that coordination should attempt to achieve.
Since space is limited we ask intending attendees to register to confirm their attendance, and to notify the organisers if they wish to present their Society’s programme. Such confirmation should be sent by May 22nd 2009. RSVP: Liz Bell at The Physiological Society, Tel: 0207 269 5711, Email: ebell [at] physoc.org.
