REPORT

The Colloquium introduced new UK UNESCO Chairs and UK-led UNITWIN Networks and examined the UNITWIN UNESCO Chairs Programme as a vehicle for North-South cooperation.

The event was attended by UNESCO Chairholders and UNITWIN Network Coordinators in the UK and in the Republic of Ireland. Presentations were given on new UNESCO Chairs and UNITWIN Networks in the UK and Ireland. A presentation by Sonia Bahri, Chief of Section for International Cooperation in Higher Education at UNESCO HQ in Paris, highlighted UNESCO’s new strategic orientation for the programme.

The UNITWIN UNESCO Chairs Programme provides for international academic cooperation and capacity building. Under its new strategic orientations, UNESCO places an emphasis on strengthening North-South and North-South-South cooperation. What makes an effective North-South partnership? And how can UK UNESCO Chairs and UK-led UNITWIN Networks best contribute to developing strong collaborative links to build capacity in the South? The Colloquium provided an opportunity for all of the UK UNESCO Chairs and UK-led UNITWIN Networks to share collaborative work, lessons learned and good practice and to discuss the future contribution of UK UNESCO Chairs and UK-led UNITWIN Networks to this area.
