Inputting into the Global Monitoring Report

Measuring progress and working together to achieve Education for All.

The annual Global Monitoring Report (GMR), published by UNESCO, measures the world’s progress in achieving the six Education for All goals to which 155 countries committed themselves at the World Education Forum in Dakar, Senegal, in 2000. It is an international project which tracks the performance of governments, civil society, donors and international agencies.

The UKNC’S Education for All Working Group organises an annual colloquium to review the Report’s findings with members of the GMR team. Professionals, practitioners and NGOs as well as specialists attend the event. The colloquium is jointly organised with the UK Forum for International Development and Training (UKFIET). This includes specialists from ministries of education in the developing world.

In addition to this annual presentation and review process, the EFA Working Group contributes to the outline of the following year’s GMR by holding joint annual seminars with the Commonwealth Secretariat where experts and government departments share insights and make recommendations for the following year’s work. Members of the GMR team attend this event, note comments and commission further research prior to the publication of the final Report. The UK is the only National Commission that organises such an event.
