Lauren Child event - My Life is a Story

British children’s writer and illustrator Lauren Child, working in conjunction with UNESCO, will present her distinctive pictorial work in an original exhibition alongside pictures and writing by children in her “My Life is a Story” project. The exhibition, which will run from Saturday April 24 – Saturday May 8 2010, aims to raise money for disadvantaged and excluded children around the world.

In 2007 UNESCO asked Lauren Child to work with them focusing on street children and children in poverty. Her book, ‘That Pesky Rat’, in which a street rat yearns for a loving home, made it the ideal story to use for the UNESCO campaign. All proceeds of a new special UNESCO edition of the book on sale in the UK will go towards UNESCO’s Programme for the Education of Children in Need.

There are 100 million children around the world who live and work in the streets with very little hope of a better future and who may never get the chance to own or read a book. The ‘My Life is a Story’ project aims to give some of these children a voice by collecting their real-life stories, starting with the most excluded in UNESCO-supported projects.
