Technology and Engineering for Development
Science, engineering and technology (SET) drives sustainable social and economic Development and is vital in addressing basic human needs including poverty reduction, emergency and disaster prevention, response and reconstruction, bridging the knowledge divide and promoting intercultural cooperation.
The overall aims of the Scotland Committee in this field is to promote engineering excellence and capacity building around the world, particularly in the developing countries, through international cooperation and sharing of good practice.
In recent years, the Scotland Committee has supported very practical projects around water treatment and renewable energy, particularly in Africa. More recently it funded a report on “Engineering Capability in Rwanda” by SISTech, which aimed to establish the skills and assess professional gaps in the areas of construction, civil engineering and infrastructure in Rwanda.
The Scotland Committee’s work in this area compliments and supports the work of the Engineering Education in Africa Working Group.
