UNESCO Associated Schools member makes Wales Green List
Cathryn Al Kaanan, director of Sazani Associates and a member of the UNESCO Associated Schools Steering Group has been included on the Wales Green List 2009. The list, which was compiled by Cynnal Cymru – Sustain Wales, celebrates individuals making Wales a better and more sustainable place to live.
Cathryn has been recognised for her work to promote sustainable development, including a project titled Education for Rural Livelihoods and Food Sovereignty (ERLAFS) which links schools in Wales with schools in Zanzibar. Involving several members of UNESCO Associated Schools in the UK, ERLAFS promotes shared learning between the partner schools on issues such as climate change and poverty reduction. It is the only British project to be included in the UNESCO Collection of Good Practices in Education for Sustainable Development.
