UNESCO head speaks on global governance

On 12 April 2011 the Director General of UNESCO, Mrs Irina Bokova, spoke to the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House, London, on the subject of “Global Governance for the 21st century: a UNESCO angle”.

In her remarks, the Director General outlined the crucial role UNESCO plays in global governance today. She stated: “Our mandate is founded on values. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is the starting point for our action and the measure of its success. UNESCO’s role today lies in bridging the gaps that exist in global governance. It is in bolstering those public goods that slip through the cracks of globalization and that are vital for our common future.”
