National Commission Regional Consultation
Europe & North America Region

 All National Commissions of a very same region meet once every two years for a REGIONAL CONSULTATION.

 Members make suggestions on UNESCO's Medium-Term Strategy (Draft C/4 Document) and on the next biennium's Programme and Budget (Draft C/5 Document), thereby starting the process of UNESCO's Programme elaboration.

2008 Regional Consultation : The Hague, Antwerp (31 May – 4 June, 2008)
Professor Alec Boksenberg (Chair of the UK National Commission for UNESCO; also Chair of the Natural Sciences Committee), Ms Sue Davies (Chair of the Culture Committee) and Professor John Morgan (Interim Chair of the Education Committee; also Convenor of the UK UNITWIN UNESCO Chairs Group) attended the 2008 Regional Consultation.

Mr Andreas Westerwinter (Deputy UK Permanent Delegate to UNESCO) attended as an observer.

2006 Regional Consultation : Athens (June 25-28, 2006)

* The summary of deliberations at the 2005 October General Conference highlights issues on which Member States were invited to provide guidance and direction, including the scope of UNESCO’s future action; the linkage between UNESCO’s strategy and programmes; the reflection of UNESCO’s mission and functions; the approach to strategic objectives for UNESCO’s programmes; the selection of cross-cutting themes and intersectoral approaches; as well as the results-based approach, which is reflected in the formulation of “expected outcomes” for each strategic objective.
