Cities of Music of the world unite! Glasgow UNESCO Creative City of Music hosts global creative conference

Delegates from the three newest UNESCO Creative Cities of Music – Hamamatsu (Japan), Hannover and Mannheim (Germany) – joined colleagues from Bogota, Bologna, Glasgow, and Seville in Glasgow for 3 days of intensive planning and discussions from 22-25 January.  The event created opportunities for the cities to learn more about one another and to explore the possibilities for network-wide initiatives.

The meeting took place in the context of Celtic Connections, Glasgow’s biggest music festival, and the biggest celebration of Scotland anywhere in the world. Topics under discussion included music sector research methodologies, international exchange of artists and music professionals, fruitful working with our different major festivals – all of which will be followed up in future meetings planned in Mannheim and Kanazawa.
