The UNESCO World Heritage Site had 944,000 visits in 2016, representing an 11% increase on the number of visits in 2015. The results follow the World Heritage Site being awarded the UK’s Best Heritage Attraction from the British Travel Awards in November 2016.
Giant’s Causeway and Causeway Coast UNESCO World Heritage Site was inscribed onto the World Heritage Register in 1986, and is located on the sea coast on the edge of the Antrim plateau in Northern Ireland.
The statistics are gathered by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) in its annual overview of the performance of the Visitor Attraction market in Northern Ireland. The Agency suggests that the results should be read in conjunction with its Annual Tourism Statistics.
