How does UNESCO spend its money?

A new transparency portal allowing the public to access information about UNESCO’s activities across sectors, countries and regions, including budgetary and donor information, was published by UNESCO in January 2017.

UNESCO suggests the updated portal is a step forward in developing an integrated budget framework to provide more complete information on its finances and the impact of its programmes.

UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova said:

“Transparency stands at the heart of the reform we are leading across the Organization […] This revamped Portal is a major contribution to UNESCO’s reform to perform initiative, and a concrete example of the steady progress made towards a more effective and innovative organization for the benefit of Member States.”

The portal forms part of UNESCO’s wider reform centred on three axes:  Innovating Programmes, Changing Working Methods, and Leading in the UN. See the updated portal: https://opendata.unesco.org/
